Kim Cousins, Wordy Bird

Kim CousinsA journalist/editor with a passion for sustainability, Kim writes for The West Australian, Scoop, Australian Nature & Health and Nourish.

“I decided to become a journalist after studying environmental science,” she says. “It opened my eyes to so many serious environmental issues, most of which the general population had no idea about.”

She swapped a science degree (maths wasn’t a strong point) for media and set to changing the world through words. Kim is a driving member of the Green Cell Collective, a community-based social media group with (grass)roots in Perth. “It’s early days but the aim is to build a local team of environmental warriors and encourage people to think green,” she says.

Wordy Bird is her new writing business, where she works with small businesses on content for websites, brochures, blogs and social media.

Growing up in rural NSW, Kim was raised in an environment were everything was homemade, reused and recycled. It’s an attitude she still tries to follow while living in the big smoke.
